Welcome Message from Professor Freddy BOEY

The world today needs inventors and inventions, and there are few better ways to seek out originality than through the Hong Kong Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Awards.

The word “innovation” is heard all the time in many sectors, but the Hong Kong ICT Awards are living proof that Hong Kong is serious about breaking new ground.

Our highly dynamic, multicultural city is where start-ups, innovative thinkers and creatives thrive.

What’s more, their exceptional initiatives are geared towards something very special: improving people’s lives.

Whatever your field today – healthcare, industry, the environment, engineering, and so forth – the priority is to directly benefit our local communities.

That’s why we should be thankful that the Hong Kong ICT Awards comprehensively cover multiple areas that urgently need attention, such as smart living, fintech, and start-ups, among others. The awardees’ innovative solutions and groundbreaking initiatives have set a benchmark of excellence that inspires and motivates the ICT community.

In particular, as President of City University of Hong Kong, I am especially excited about the Student Innovation Award.

As I have experienced first-hand since moving to Hong Kong this year, this city is blessed with an incredibly talented student body, and it behoves us all to help guide young people towards their dreams.

I would say that the young people are in fact the city’s most prized asset.

So, it is my great honour to serve as Chairman of the Grand Judging Panel for Hong Kong ICT Awards 2023 and my utmost pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to all the awardees this year. Thank you!
