2012-4-10 Awards recognise remarkable achievements in ICT (Press Release)

(Hong Kong, 3rd April 2012) The remarkable achievements of the local information and communications technology (ICT) sector were recognised at the presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 tonight (April 3).

Cherrypicks Ltd/Media Palette Hong Kong received the Award of the Year, the highest accolade, from the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, at the presentation ceremony. The Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Ms Elizabeth Tse, presented the Grand Awards to the winners of 10 award categories.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Tsang said, "We have a deep pool of nimble and skilled ICT professionals who are capable of delivering ingenious applications and solutions. The Hong Kong ICT Awards provide a valuable platform to trumpet our successes, showcase our talents and promote our ICT expertise to a wide audience.

"The ICT Awards continue to receive strong support from the industry and the community, attracting over 670 entries this year. Winners in each of the categories demonstrate excellence in their respective sectors," he said.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards were established in 2006 under a collaborative effort amongst the industry, academia and the Government. The aim is to build a large-scale and internationally recognised brand of ICT awards in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 comprise 10 categories. There is one Grand Award in each category and the best of the best - the Award of the Year - is selected from the Grand Award winners. The winners in each category are as follows:

Awards Presentation Ceremony of Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 To Recognise Outstanding ICT Industry Practitioners


(28th March 2012) Supported by Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, Hong Kong Productivity Council and Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong ICT Awards presentation ceremony will be held on 3rd April (Tuesday) in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Prior to the ceremony, the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Daniel Lai, will meet the media at the Convention Foyer, Level 1, at 6.10pm to speak on government support to the Hong Kong ICT Awards.

The HKICT Awards have been organised for six consecutive years since 2006 and have been widely acknowledged by the industry. The awards have not only strengthened the image of HK ICT industry in both local and international market, but also provide great opportunities for the ICT elites to deliver their creative and innovative ICT ideas. With the proactive response and support from the industry, this year we have received 675 entries competing for different awards. Most of the entries do show their professional in creativity and up-to-date technology. It is no doubt that those entries will definitely bring a positive prospect to the HK ICT industry.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards, which is established to provide an interactive platform for ICT professionals to demonstrate their creativity, can also act as a springboard for creating more business opportunities and facilitating the successful development of international markets.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 comprises ten categories, which includes the Best Business Award, Best Collaboration Award, Best Digital Entertainment Award, Best Digital Inclusion Award, Best Green ICT Award, Best Innovation & Research Award, Best Lifestyle Award, Best Professional Development Award, Best Public Service Application Award and Best Ubiquitous Networking Award. Each award category is organised by an industry-related organisation. There is one Grand Award in each category and an “Award of the Year” would be selected from the Grand Awards by the Grand Judging Panel to recognise their remarkable achievements in ICT.

Individual awards presentation ceremony for the ten award categories will be conducted in the afternoon, and the Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held in the evening with Mr John Tsang Chun-wah, GBM, JP, Financial Secretary as the officiating guest who will present the “Award of the Year”. Besides, a special session has been arranged for the winners of the ten Grand Awards to meet the press. Media representatives are welcome to attend all functions.

【17 January 2012‧Hong Kong】Coming to its 6th consecutive year, the renowned Hong Kong ICT Awards uplift the image of ICT sector both locally and internationally, as well as nurturing a batch of local ICT talents and organisations. With the support from the government and HKICTA, winners of the Awards have established their professional status through winning various international and regional awards, and have successfully opened the gateway to global and the mainland market.

With the Year of Dragon fast approaching, Mr. Daniel Lai, BBS, JP, the newly-appointed Government Chief Information Officer, meets the media today in the press conference, sharing how HKSAR Government uses the platform of HKICTA to promote and foster further development of the ICT industry.

Speaking in the press conference, Chairman of Organising Committee of HKICTA 2012, Prof Kam-Fai Wong, MH said, "Since the establishment in 2006, the HKICTA received warm echo and wide acceptance from the industry, and the number of applications increased year by year. This well demonstrates the innovation and excellence of local ICT talents. With the continuous efforts in new technologies and applications, Hong Kong ICT industry successfully plays on the international stage."

"Responding to the six industries development plan led by the government, HKICTA will continuously introduce new elements to carry forward advanced technology and innovation so as to create a better living environment in Hong Kong," Prof Kam-Fai Wong added.

Since the inauguration of HKICTA in 2006, winners of the Awards have successfully established a premium status for Hong Kong through winning different prestigious international, regional and national awards. In today’s press conference, some of the past HKICTA winners share their success stories of benefiting from participating in the Awards, as well as how HKICTA helping to promote them onto the international stage.

Among the past winners, the Best Ubiquitous Networking Grand Award 2008 - Senior Citizen Home Safety Association (Mobile Link Service) has made remarkable achievements in winning eight local and overseas awards, including the ‘Grand Prize of the Digital Opportunity Award in the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Global ICT Excellence Awards 2010’, and the award of ‘m-Inclusion and Empowerment’ at ‘World Summit Award (WSA) – Mobile 2010’. This WSA prize was awarded to a Chinese representative for the very first time. Ms. Carmen Ng, Deputy Director of the Association, remarked: "Winning all those awards shows our excellent contribution in the area of promoting social harmony and enabling elderly to live independently. From exploitation of ‘Personal Emergency Link Service’, ‘Mobile Link Service’ to ‘Safety Phone Service’, the Association commits itself to deliver best ICT innovation by continuously investing ample resources in research, for a safe life of the elderly."

The winner of Best Business Grand Award 2011 - Pulse MediaTech Ltd. (JM Digital Publishing Platform) further gain recognition at ‘Asia Pacific ICT Awards 2011’, as the respective winners of ‘New Media and Entertainment’ and ‘Start-up Company’. Dr. Leonard Chan, founder of the company, said: "By winning the Best Business Grand Award 2011, our achievement is recognised by the industry. We are happy to have a chance to continue with our success at ‘Asia Pacific ICT Awards 2011’. This recognition abroad really helps us gain more business opportunities."

BRIO Electronic Commerce Ltd. (Cross-border Electronic Trade Declaration Service Based on Mutual Recognition of Electronic Signature Certification Issued by Hong Kong and Guangdong) was the winner of Best Collaboration Grand Award 2011. The company obtained three mainland awards since then, including ‘Best Information Technology Prize: Information Application Gold Medal’ at ‘Shenzhen Hong Kong Technology Innovation Grand Award 2011’, ‘China Software And Information Service Industry Annual Award 2011’ and ‘China Outstanding Software Product Awards 2011”. Mr. Eldon Yeung, Managing Director of the company, indicated: "Assisted by HKICTA and the Organising Committee, our company participated in several significant competitions in the mainland and finally achieved proud results that paved our way for greater China market."

“Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012: Best Business Award”, the recognition of ICT business application achievements, organized by Hong Kong Computer Society, is open for invitation of entries now. The closing date for entries will be February 6, 2012. The Awards include four categories: Best Business (Application) Award; Best Business (Application - SME) Award; Best Business (Product) Award and Best Business (Start-up Company) Award.

Gold, silver and bronze awards will be presented in four award streams respectively. One of the gold award winners among the four streams will be selected as the winner of the “Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012: Best Business Grand Award” and be nominated to compete for the ultimate accolade of the “Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012: Award of the Year”.

Ir. Stephen Lau, JP, President, Hong Kong Computer Society noted that the “Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012: Best Business Award” aimed to promote greater use of ICT in the community, in turn helping to create a culture of ICT usage in business as well as in daily life and to encourage original software development and promote improved creativity in the exploitation of technology in the local ICT industry.

Ir. Stephen Lau pointed out that as the winners of Hong Kong ICT Awards, their achievements will be made aware by customers, organizations, the ICT industry practitioners and the entire community. Winning the Hong Kong ICT Awards will not only elevate the company image but also expand its sales and market share in the global economy, and attract local and international investors’ interest. 【13 December 2011‧Hong Kong】 Supported by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Trade Development and Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong Kong Information Technology Federation (HKITF) has officiated the Hong Kong ICT Awards (HKICTA) 2012: Best Lifestyle Award launching ceremony today (Tuesday) in Ocean Terminal, Harbour City. The organiser also conducted two discussion sessions to examine and discuss the future development of eLearning, lifestyle and information technology.

The Award is honoured to have invited Dr. William Lo, JP, the Chairman of Judging Panel of HKICTA 2012: Best Lifestyle Award; Dr. Royce Yuen, JP, Head Assessor of Social, Communications & Media Stream; Dr. William Yu, Head Assessor of Green, Healthy & Creative Living; Mr. Erwin Huang, Chairman of eLearning Consortium; and Ms. Irene Leung, Chairperson of HKICTA 2012: Best Lifestyle Award Organising Committee, to officiate at the launching ceremony.

Chairperson of HKICTA 2012: Best Lifestyle Award Organising Committee, Ms. Irene Leung said during the launching ceremony, “The Best Lifestyle Award offers three award streams, namely: 'Green, Healthy and Creative Living', which gives credit to green and healthy lifestyle concepts; 'Learning and Living', which has invited Mr. Kenneth Chen J.P., Under Secretary for Education as the Head Assessor for this stream to encourage eLearning; and 'Social, Communications and Media' which supports the local communications industry. The organiser held the “eLearning – Mission and Challenge” discussion panel immediately after the ceremony. All officiating guests shared their opinions, recommended improvements and solutions to various problems encountered in promoting eLearning. In addition, a group of bloggers were invited to share their views and give advice on “Lifestyle and Information Technology”.

Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 open for applications

Coming into its sixth consecutive year, the renowned Hong Kong ICT Awards (HKICTA) will open for applications on December 15 (Thursday). All innovative and enterprising local professionals and organisations are welcome to apply and join in the pursuit of top honours.

Through seamless collaboration between the Government, business community, industry practitioners and academia, the Awards aim to promote and commend outstanding innovative technology and applications achievements, as well as to encourage practitioners to further develop innovative and creative information and communications technology (ICT) solutions for a better life.

Supported by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 are organised by 10 local professional associations chosen by a Steering Committee after a competitive selection exercise. The Committee is chaired by the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Stephen Mak, to provide overall steer to the award scheme. Other members of the Committee include representatives from the Innovation and Technology Commission, Invest Hong Kong, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Hong Kong Cyberport.

Announcing the launch of this year's Awards today (November 30), Chairman of the Organising Committee of Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012, Professor Wong Kam-fai said, "Since the inauguration of the Awards in 2006, their achievements in promoting and fostering support for Hong Kong as the ICT hub in the region are indubitably substantial.

"Winners of the Awards can showcase their excellence to customers, organisations, the ICT industry and the entire community, and at the same time gain exposure in the international arena," he said.

The 10 categories of the Awards and the respective leading organisers are:

Best Business Award: Hong Kong Computer Society;
Best Collaboration Award: Hong Kong Software Industry Association;
Best Digital Entertainment Award: Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association;
Best Digital Inclusion Award: The Hong Kong Council of Social Service;
Best Green ICT Award: Green ICT Consortium;
Best Innovation and Research Award: Internet Professional Association;
Best Lifestyle Award: Hong Kong Information Technology Federation;
Best Professional Development Award: The British Computer Society (Hong Kong Section);
Best Public Service Application Award: The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers - IT Division; and
Best Ubiquitous Networking Award: Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association.

There will be one Grand Award in each category and the best of the best - "Award of the Year" - will be selected by a Grand Judging Panel from the 10 Grand Awards. All professionals and organisations in ICT industry should seize this valuable chance! Applications will close on February 6, 2012.

The Government is inviting proposals from interested organisations for participation as leading organisers of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012.

Launched in 2006 with full support from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, the annual Hong Kong ICT Awards aims at recognising, promoting and celebrating the achievements of local information and communications technology (ICT) professionals and organisations in ICT innovation and application.

The awards are granted in different categories in Hong Kong's priority ICT areas. Each award category is run by a leading organiser, which can be a non-profit trade association, professional body or relevant organisation selected through a competitive admission exercise. The leading organisers will be responsible for organising award contests and managing the selection of winners in the designated categories.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 comprises the following 10 categories:

* Best Collaboration Award
* Best Digital Entertainment Award
* Best Digital Inclusion Award
* Best Green ICT Award
* Best Innovation and Research Award

Awards Recognise Remarkable Achievements in ICT

The remarkable achievements of the local information and communications technology (ICT) sector were recognised at the presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2011 tonight (April 15).


The Hong Kong Police Force and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department received the highest accolade - the Award of the Year - from the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, at the ceremony. The Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, presented the Grand Awards to the winners of 10 award categories.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Tsang said: "Since 2006, the ICT Awards have become a springboard for our dedicated professionals to achieve success and gain exposure further afield. They have also helped to promote healthy competition and raise the bar for the industry here in Hong Kong.

"Once again, this year there was fierce competition for the Awards with over 740 entries. This demonstrates strong support among the industry and the community for these Awards," he said.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards were established in 2006 under a collaborative effort amongst the industry, the academia and the Government. Its aim is to build a large scale and internationally recognised brand of ICT awards in Hong Kong. The Awards are progressively expanding to span a comprehensive coverage of different aspects of ICT.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2011 comprises 10 categories. There is one Grand Award in each category and an Award of the Year is selected among the 10 Grand Award winners. The Grand Award winners and their entries are:
